Street Outlaws – Damon Merchant is dominating No Prep Kings 6 with special combo

Street Outlaws – Damon Merchant Dominates No Prep Kings 6 But Fierce Competition Is Budding

The initial five seasons of Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings showcased established drivers like Ryan Martin, James “Birdman” Finney, and Mike Murillo as champions. However, the year 2023 has witnessed a surge of new talents joining the scene, with Damon Merchant leading the pack.

Despite his familiarity with Street Outlaws, Merchant’s rookie season in the Invitational has been remarkable. With the ongoing summer break, he stands atop the Invitational leaderboard. In the four points events held so far, he has reached two final rounds and hasn’t been defeated prior to the semifinals.

Merchant attributes his success to his consistent car, the 1968 Camaro named “Rogue.” Amidst a realm replete with Noonan and ProLine Hemi engines, Merchant has adopted an alternative approach, opting for a 555ci behemoth from Brand Racing Engines, replete with an F3-136 ProCharger. While this amalgamation has boded remarkably well for him, even Merchant himself could scarcely have foreseen his meteoric ascent within the ranks of NPK this year.

“From the very outset, our vehicle has maintained an unmatched consistency,” Merchant articulated. “Its 60-foot performance stands unparalleled. When you wield a swift reaction at the start line, and the automobile catapults through the first 60 feet as ours does, it engenders a formidable challenge for any contender out there.”

While surprised by his swift rise, Merchant credits his dedicated crew, including his wife Lacy, father Roger, and friends Craig Stephens and Mark Niebes.

The new team format introduced this season has also propelled Merchant’s group into second place for the Team Championship, closely trailing Daddy Dave’s team. Despite losing head-to-head matchups to Kye Kelley, Merchant holds a 30-point lead over Kelley in the Invitational, emphasizing the importance of winning the overall battle.

Acknowledged as the “People’s Champ” by fans, Merchant’s success has garnered attention and even sparked skepticism from fellow drivers. He remains focused on his performance rather than external noise. As No Prep Kings resumes, Merchant acknowledges the escalating competition but is determined not to rest on his laurels.

“Numerous individuals are vociferous, they invest lavishly, and they exude opulence on the track,” Merchant mused. “Yet, if one falters in their precision at the starting line, all other considerations fade into insignificance.”

The No Prep Kings schedule recommences its whirlwind trajectory on August 11 to 12 at Tulsa Raceway Park. While Merchant finds contentment with his squad’s status quo, he concedes that the competitive field is accelerating as the season unfurls. With a desire to be an underdog and a winner, Merchant is poised to continue his ascent in the racing world.
