At times, disheartening updates emerge from the racing community. Today’s news pertains to an individual who has already weathered a series of trials in recent years—both concerning their well-being and racing endeavors. Tragedy appears to be an unwelcome companion in Mike Murillo’s journey.

In the latest development this July, Mike Murillo, a prominent figure on Street Outlaws No Prep Kings, is grappling with a personal tragedy within his family. Regrettably, he has conveyed the passing of his father, with no specific age mentioned. This heartrending loss of his father occurs during a pause in the No Prep Kings season.

This adds another layer of difficulty for the accomplished racing champion, who is concurrently engaged in his own battle for survival.

Announcing a sobering revelation, Mike Murillo has disclosed his battle with stage 4 lung cancer—an affliction of non-small cell nature. The affliction extends beyond his lungs, with a mass found on his lymph nodes and spine.

The onset of his ailment traces back to last June during the No Prep Kings’ involvement at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota, where Murillo began experiencing illness anew. Subsequently, following the Houston race, he found himself in the emergency room.

The timeline of Murillo’s health woes continues, with a diagnosis of an enlarged heart on June 29th, causing complications related to his lungs. A subsequent cat scan on July 22nd revealed the presence of a lung mass, prompting medical professionals to suspect its existence during his January 2021 tussle with COVID-19.

A draining procedure eliminated 16 ounces of fluid from his heart. Yet, the challenges did not relent. On August 15th, the verdict of stage 4 lung cancer was pronounced.

In the face of adversity, Murillo expressed, “It’s a choice between confronting or evading. Within 24 hours, I resolved to confront this ordeal. Treatment courses have been arranged.”

As per information from the Cancer Center, Stage 4 cancer denotes an advanced phase of the disease.

The streak of misfortune didn’t conclude there; earlier this year, Mike faced another challenge when he underwent a double knee replacement surgery. The procedure took place at Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio, located in Texas.

Next announcement marks the most recent setback for the former champion of No Prep Kings, who was previously hit by misfortune when his iconic Mustang “LaFawnduh” was engulfed in flames during a run in September of the previous year.

Reports have corroborated that the Street Outlaws luminary encountered another perilous incident during the weekend of September 23-24, 2022. Mike found himself in a head-to-head race against his fellow No Prep Kings participant, Ryan Martin, resulting in a crash that led to his car igniting in flames.

During Round 2 of the Invitational at Summit Motorsport Park in Norwalk, Ohio, Mike and Ryan were engaged in a race when Mike’s car suddenly burst into flames. Fortunately, with the assistance of a few onlookers, Mike managed to evacuate the vehicle before sustaining any injuries.

In the aftermath of Mike’s crash, images depicting the extent of the incident circulated online, painting a vivid picture of the aftermath. Despite the considerable damage sustained by his car, Mike conveyed his gratitude for emerging from the incident unharmed. Alongside a photo showcasing the scorched sports car, the Street Outlaws personality captioned, “Well, this thing kinda happened this past weekend.”

According to accounts, Mike was taken to the hospital for assessment of his injuries and was subsequently discharged.

Describing the crash as a “nightmare,” Mike ensured his fans of his safety and well-being, emphasizing, “Every event and individual in your life has a purpose.”

Furthermore, he expressed gratitude towards Justin Swanstrom and his team, acknowledging that they likely played a pivotal role in safeguarding his life.

Murillo has affirmed his intention to have the Fox body repaired in time for the launch of the sixth season of “No Prep Kings” in 2023. Murillo’s vision for 2023 revolves around revitalizing the prominence of turbochargers in the racing scene.
